Here's a story from my backyard in Edmond, OK. I found it on NewsOK.com
Olympic hopeful and Edmond resident Jerry Faulkner will be a featured runner at the 14th annual Frigid Five 5-mile run and walk on Valentine’s Day in Edmond.
Faulkner will be one of more than 1,000 runners and walkers expected to participate in the Feb. 14 annual event. He won the race in 2007.
An Oklahoma native, Faulkner is a 2012 Olympic hopeful who also will compete in the Twin Cities marathon in October in Minneapolis and St. Paul. His goal is to qualify in a time of 2:18.
In addition to placing first in the 2006 Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon, Faulkner has claimed wins at several other local races including the Route 66 Marathon in Tulsa in November and the 10K Redbud Classic in Nichols Hills in April.
"It’s in my home territory,” he said of the Edmond race. "I’ve got to defend my stomping grounds.”
