Blog: I read stories every day about runners being hit by cars. I don't normally post them because I don't want this website to become depressing. However, every now and then, it's important to think about the dangers of the road.
Stay safe and alert while running.

Blog: You probably remember reading the story and watching the video I posted a few months back about Oscar Pistorius, the double-amputee runner that wants to compete with able-bodied athletes. The IAAF ruled that his prosthetic limbs gave him an unfair advantage over the competition. Oscar appealed their decision and a verdict is coming soon.

From WEAU.com:
Officers say a 68-year-old man died during a marathon that went from Boulder Junction and Eagle River on Saturday.
The sheriff's department says it received a report of a man collapsing during the Journey's Marathon.
Officers took 68-year-old Robert Zapranoff of Mercer to the hospital.
That's where the coroner pronounced him dead.
The marathon is in its 12th year. The Eagle River Chamber of Commerce says Zapranoff is the first person to die during the event.
Online records show Zapranoff completed the race last year.

Taking a long run through the city streets early in the morning
can help center your day. Trekking along dusty soft trails through the
mountains is a perfect way to spend an afternoon. Getting in a quick
run in your neighborhood is a great way to get in some exercise without
driving to the gym. Running is one of the best workouts to burn
calories, boost your cardiovascular fitness, and relieve stress. But,
the type of surface you run on can impact your training and, in some
cases, contribute to injuries. However, you can prevent pain and
injuries by staying on these safe running surfaces.

Terry Lemieux has been running for about 17 years
and wasn't about to let a heart attack in 2003 slow him down. Running
every second day is still his regimen.
"I've been running long enough to get the runner's high," Lemieux said. "Every benefit of running far outweighs any of the pain or discomfort."

'The quickest way to beauty is to sweat." So goes the battle cry in
a recent issue of Anan, Tokyo's most influential women's magazine. A
year ago this same publication had boldly endorsed sex as the surefire
way of attaining and maintaining a beautiful body.
Now its paradigm has shifted, as more women equate fashion with health and the sense of true empowerment gained by strenuous workouts. And far from being sports geeks, these women don't forget to accessorize their activities with femininely attractive sports paraphernalia. "Because sporty is sexy!" declares another blurb in the Anan issue, followed by: "Women who sweat are beautiful from the very core of their beings."

Vanderlei de Lima was leading with around six kilometres to run in Athens when a former Irish priest Cornelius Horan ran across the course and bundled him into the crowd.
He struggled free and despite losing 20 seconds went on to finish third.
However a nagging injury in the back of his left thigh has ruled him out on Sunday's Prague marathon, his last chance to qualify.
