The Runner's Guide to iPod, iPhone, and accessories

Images10_2 Blog:  If you're like me, you love your iPod.  I know that many people use MP3 players, but I'm an Apple guy.  I work on a MAC, I use an iPhone, we download TV shows to our Apple TV, and I've been buying iPods since they first came out.  When I run, I listen to my iPod Shuffle or iPhone.  To say that I'm an "Apple addict" would be an understatement.

The one thing I love about the iPhone and iPod are all of the accessories that you can get.  They've come up with some really cool stuff.  But how do you sort through all of it?  There are so many gadgets out there -- how do you know when you buy one that it is really the best one for you?

I stumbled upon the  "2008  iPod +  iPhone Buyer's Guide" today at www.ilounge.com.  I have to say that they did a really good job putting it together.

If you're in the market for a new  iPod, iPhone or accessory, you should download it.  It's FREE :-)

Staying Warm in the Cold

Jennyhadfieldheadshot Blog:  I found a good article on RunnersWorld.com that gives some tips for running in cold weather.  The article is written by Jenny Hadfield.  She talks about clothing, taking a warm shower before you run, planning out your route, and other things that will make running in the cold easier.

It's a good read.  Click here

Runners to record thoughts during Scotland 10K

_44394168_finishline203_4 Blog:  The BBC is asking for runners to volunteer to wear lightweight audio equipment during an upcoming 10K.  The runners will record their thoughts and feelings while running.  They claim that this is the first time that this has been done.

Here's a link with more info and how to volunteer

Jogger attacked with a candy bar...

Images13 Blog:  This has to be the "story of the day".   A jogger was hit with a frozen Mars candy bar after it was thrown by someone in a passing car.  The car then turned around and the people inside threw something else at him.

The candy bar perps are still at large......

Kenyan runner wrestles with dilemma

Blog:  Here's another sad story involving a runner from Kenya.  David Karanja's dilemma is to stay and train in Canada or return to Kenya to be with his daughter.  Runners like Karanja are considered "rock stars" in Kenya. Once the violence began in Kenya, the runners have become "targets" for extremists.  The violence has already claimed the lives of 2 other runners.

An open letter to treadmill makers

Treadmills Blog:  This a story written by a person who is tired of treadmills going into cool down mode after 60 minutes.  I agree that it gets frustrating and wish mine didn't do it.

It's worth reading.

NASA's New Vertical Treadmill Imitates Running in Space

Szlstreadmill Blog:  How would you like to run in that position?  Bet that would feel pretty weird.

Running longer -- Building up leg muscles

Blog:  My wife and I have both decided that we need to do more leg exercises in order to run longer distances.  Our legs tend to "give out" before we want them to.

I found this video today that has some simple strengthening exercises that we can all do at home.

Looking for volunteers for running shoe study

Blog:  If I lived in Canada, I'd probably do this.  Researchers at the University of Calgary are conducting a study to assess how shoes with various soles affect a runner's muscle use, impact, vibration and breathing.  Those who volunteer will get a free pair of running shoes.

Cooling down after a run

Images12_2 Blog:  I've often wondered what I should do during my "cool down" period.  Do I walk for 10 minutes?   Do I walk a certain distance?  Should I stretch?

I found some really good advice on this topic on the Runner's World website.
